Make a living
"In August, fishermen kneel before the shrine and set out to sea in the dark, foggy hours before dawn. Every departure is an ordinary act of making a living, yet it may also be a movement toward death." Through conversations with elderly fishermen, I encountered for the first time the near-zero distance between life and death.
In the face of the difficulty of survival, art becomes powerless. The definition of divinity is no longer identical with the divine itself; the role of god falls from that of a radiant creator to that of an emotional vessel.
The predicament faced by the deity is, in essence, the predicament faced by human beings.
