The Bullet in the Feast
Microcystin is a cyclic peptide toxin traditionally regarded as an extremely dangerous cancer promoter. However, current research suggests that it can inhibit human liver cancer cells to a certain degree and may be developed as a potential anti-cancer drug.
Based on microcystin's transformation from carcinogen to potential anti-cancer drug, the work constructs a "feast" composed of algae and culture medium. In the wine glass at the center, a bullet containing microcystin releases the toxin, which is diluted and then flows outward into the glass and tableware. This dilution process represents microcystin's transformation into medicine while also blurring the boundary between toxic substance and drug.
The advancement of biotechnology challenges conventional understanding: one substance can be both "poison" and "cure". Attendees at a banquet are not necessarily facing delicacies, and the bullet-drinker is not necessarily swallowing poison.
温床上的饮弹者
微囊藻毒素作为一种环状肽毒素,在传统意义上被视为一种极危险的癌症促进剂,然而目前的研究发现,其对人肝癌细胞有着一定程度的抑制作用,可作为潜在的抗癌药物研发。
作品基于微囊藻毒素从致癌物到潜在抗癌药的转变,构造了一个由藻类和培养基溶液构成的“宴席”。中间的酒杯中,一颗包含着微囊藻毒素的子弹释放出毒素并被稀释,进而向外流淌入酒杯和餐具当中。这一稀释的过程既代表着微囊藻毒素到药物的转变,也同时模糊了毒性物质和药物的边界。
生物技术的进步颠覆着人们的固有认知:一类物质既有可能成为“毒药”,也有可能成为“解药”,赴宴者未必面对的是珍馐,而饮弹者也未必吞下的是毒饵。
